Understand your benefit tier
- Tier 1 — If you didn't have dental coverage, this is the lowest benefit tier. This applies if you didn't have prior group dental coverage for at least 12 months within 60 days before you signed up for the Retiree Dental Expense Plan. Then you'll be put in Tier 1. After a year in Tier 1, then you'll be put in Tier 2. Then after the year in Tier 2, you'll move to Tier 3, the highest benefit.
- Tier 3 — If you have prior group dental coverage, this is the highest benefit tier. This applies if you were covered by another group dental plan for at least 12 months within 60 days before you signed up for the Retiree Dental Expense Plan. Then you'll enroll in Tier 3.* Effective 1/1/25: Tier 3 now includes coverage for implants.
- Tier 4 — Optional buy-up plan which covers same benefits as tier 3, with addition of child orthodontic services.
