Welcome to the NJWELL Program!
The State Health Benefits Program (SHBP) welcomes you to join NJWELL - a program designed to help actively employed members of the SHBP live a healthy lifestyle. When you are healthier, everyone wins. You’ll feel better, you’ll have more energy for your family and your job, and you’ll typically require less costly health care. Here’s what you need to know about NJWELL:

  • Program timeframe – November 1 – October 31 annually
  • Active employees and their covered spouse/partner can participate:
    • NJWELL is available to active employees in the SHBP/SEHBP who are enrolled in an Aetna plan. Eligible spouses/partners can also participate as long as he/she is covered by the plan. Dependent children are not eligible for points and incentives.
  • Eligible participants earn points:
    • When you participate in a NJWELL activity.
  • Points translate to rewards:
    • For this coming year, eligible participants can earn up to a $250 in VISA pre-pay card rewards. The eligible covered spouse/partner can earn his or her own pre-paid card too!
    • Eligible participants who reach 800 point as well as completing their health assessment and biometric screening will be able to redeem their $250 incentive via the ActiveHeath Management NJWELL Portal.

Know Your Numbers – and Receive a Financial Incentive!
The NJWELL program can help you learn, track and improve your numbers so you can get or keep your health on track. It’s easy to follow and comes free with your health plan. And, there is a special incentive just for knowing your numbers.

How to learn your numbers – How to begin with the NJWELL Program!
To get started, you must complete the following first two steps. These will help you learn more about your general health. Once you’ve completed these two steps, you’ll become eligible to earn more incentive points.

  • Complete a Biometric Screening – Health screenings help you to learn your biometric numbers. You and your covered spouse/partner can each earn points by participating in a biometric screening, which identifies health risks. You can get a screening from your doctor at an annual physical.* You can also sign-up now for your Biometric Screenings through Quest Diagnostics! To register online and schedule an appointment you can visit My.QuestForHealth.com and use NJWELL as your registration key.** There is no fasting required and take any regularly scheduled medications as usual. It is that simple — you then will see your 100 points arrive in the MyActiveHealth Portal within 7 days of successfully completing your screening.
  • Complete a health assessment (via the ActiveHealth portal) – It will only take about 15 minutes to enter your information and answer questions about your health. When you’re done, you’ll get back a health report that shows a snapshot of your risks. Your health summary will list your current numbers alongside of what they should be. Over time, it will also show your progress. You’ll also see a list of risk factors— and action plans to address them, as needed. Click here to get started now!

More Ways to Earn Points – and Be Healthy!
There are five more ways for you and your spouse/partner to earn incentive points this year!

  1. Get your age/gender appropriate screenings and log your visits into the ActiveHealth Portal
  2. Get your flu shot and log your visit into the ActiveHealth Portal
  3. Participate in online coaching through the ActiveHealth Portal

Getting back to being you
Anyone — any age, gender, income, race or religion — can develop a behavioral health condition, like depression. These conditions are linked to brain functioning. And they can affect how someone thinks, feels and acts.

Sometimes, a condition is mild. Other times, it is more serious and long lasting. Either way, recovery is always possible. But first, a condition must be diagnosed and treated.

If you are coping with a behavioral health condition, there is good news. Your medical plan includes behavioral health benefits. That means we’re here with the help you need to work toward recovery. So that you can get back to being your best.

A team dedicated to your recovery
People count on you. You could be a parent, a caregiver, a sibling, a friend or an employee. Or all of the above. You can count on us.

You get a team of people involved in your progress — doctors, nurses, psychologists and social workers. They’ll work with your care team to set up the best treatment for you. Now everyone involved in your care is working together. So you can focus on getting better, not how to get care.

The best fit for you
Your troubles could never fit into a neat little box, with a neat little solution. Feeling better takes hard work, some trial and error. And above all — personalized support. For instance, our caring case managers can connect you with the right support — be it a psychiatrist, counselor or psychotherapist. And help you set realistic goals.

Other program support includes:

  • Counseling to uncover deep issues
  • Early screening, for early help
  • Online tools to check your risk for a condition
  • Strategies and tips for everyday living

Coverage for many conditions
Your benefits provide access to treatment for many types of conditions:

Anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness or fear. It affects some people from time to time. For others, it can last for years and affect their work and home life.

But treatment can help. Many people respond well to therapy, medication or a combination of both.

Depression is more than feeling sad. It is a mood disorder. And it can affect your thoughts, mood, health and behavior. Depression is treatable. Usually, a combination of therapy and medicine is effective. When not treated, it can become a chronic condition.

Substance abuse
You might think of prescription or illegal drugs when you hear about substance abuse. But drinking is the most common substance abuse problem people face.

As with abusing prescription or illegal drugs, drinking can lead to:

  • Impaired judgment and embarrassing or dangerous situations
  • Problems at work
  • Relationship issues
  • Trouble with authorities and the police
  • Car accidents and DUIs

Help is available if you feel you have a problem. First, look for community help and support groups in your area. Often having a support network can really help people change their habits. Or talk to your doctor, who can connect you with the support you need.

Eating disorders
A positive body image and healthy relationship with food support good health. But for some people, an obsession with weight or food can take over. An eating disorder like this can affect physical well-being and self-esteem. It can even become life threatening.

If you are struggling with an eating disorder, treatment is available. It can start you on your way to lifelong healthy eating habits. And it can help you see yourself in a whole new way.

Treatment based on the latest knowledge
Treatment for behavioral health conditions continues to improve. We work with top universities and research groups to learn more about how our mind and body work together. And we’re using what we learn to help you get access to the safest, most effective treatment available.

Behavioral therapy
This is also known as talk therapy. It is one of the main ways to treat a behavioral health condition. This treatment helps you identify issues in your life that can contribute to problems. And it helps you manage and move beyond these issues.

A therapy session can be one-on-one, in a group or with family. A psychiatrist, psychologist or counselor leads the session by asking questions, listening to you and helping you see the options available to you.

Medication therapy
Sometimes, treatment involves taking a medicine, often a prescription medication. There are many effective medications for conditions like depression and substance abuse.

Your doctors are trained to find the right medicine to treat you. And they can answer your questions about possible side effects.

Medication management
Sometimes, for different reasons, you might not take medicine the way the doctor prescribed it for you. Or you might stop taking it once you feel better. This can cause symptoms to return.

Our program provides information about your medicine, how it works and why it is important. And it encourages you to talk to your doctor about how you feel, and to ask questions about your medicine and other available treatments.
